Debugging Controller Problems

I've been trying to test out this motor I just got, and for the life of me I can't figure out where I'm going wrong. I'm pretty new to this so I made a basic setup controlling the esc with an Arduino as such: https://howtomechatronics.com/tutorials/arduino/arduino-brushless-motor-control-tutorial-esc-bldc/.

I tried to arm the motor but it doesn't seem to want to respond to the commands. These are the parts I'm using besides the Arduino uno:

The esc I was originally using seems to have died which leads me to believe the battery is too strong?
