Got a drone from Amazon with pictures and videos on the SD card and discovered that metadata is scary
I ordered the Autel Evo 2 a few weeks ago on Amazon. It prompted me to do a firmware update right away. I did the update and it said something failed and to try again. From that point forward it was completely bricked. The controller and drone would not talk to each other. I called Autel's service department and they walked me through some stuff to try but nothing worked.
I thought, hey, Amazon has a pretty easy return/exchange policy - I'll just do that. I received my replacement last night. I could tell right away that this was a used drone. The first one I got was packaged all nice with plastic over everything. This one had no plastic wrap and the package just looked disheveled.
The bundle I purchased came with an SD card already in the slot. I pop it in my computer and find 2 pictures and 3 videos on the card. I see a US flag and palm trees so I'm thinking Florida.
I search for a metadata analyzer and find this website -http://exif.regex.info/exif.cgi
I always knew there was metadata on photos and videos but I had no idea it could give latitude and longitude. I find it on Google Maps and sure enough it is an address for construction company in Miami, Florida. I've gone CSI on their asses. I almost want to call the company and ask why they returned it but that might be creepy lol.
The drone actually flies great and works just as it should. However, I ordered a brand new drone and got a used one. So I guess I am exchanging again. Amazon really has to crack down on this shit.
