I'd like to thank everyone in advance who replies - I've had a rough break and any advice right now would really help out.
First, I've been flying for about a month and have a decent knack for it. Really been enjoying drone piloting and it's helped me stop being a recluse.
I mainly used my drone for aerial photos, videos and FPV for checking things out (Like the roof when a bad storm hit, etc).
So, my first real drone was a Potensic D80 and I enjoyed flying it. That is until I was flying it over a river to get a nice video at a nearby park, only to have the controller start beeping like mad and the drone fell right out of the air, into the water, and swept away, never to be seen again. ;_;
It was a Christmas gift, so I've been completely crushed, and although I don't have a lot of money, I have really loved the hobby and I would like to continue doing it. I'd considered just replacing the Potensic but I'm now pretty gun shy of the brand, just because of the catastrophic failure I had with mine.
Of course, trying to get a new drone on a budget isn't going to get me a beautiful DJI or anything close - I am very aware of that, but I have just under $200 to my name, and I'd love to have a drone again.
That being said, I had some lessons learned from the Potensic, so I have a short list of things I'd like to have for my next drone.
1) Brushless motors. Wow, who knew they made such a difference in - EVERYTHING. I don't think I can ever go back.
2) FPV mode is beneficial, but range isn't critical - as long as it can record video and photos onto a MicroSD or something at longer ranges.
3) Best flight time of 15 minutes or more would be great.
4) Decent range. It doesn't have to a 1km, but 500m maybe?
5) Possibly a foldable? I really think having something more portable might be really nice for hiking and walks, and light-weight just makes it even easier to fly without restrictions.
6) Camera quality 1080p@30fps? I'm really not looking for breathtaking stuff, more on the practical side of things, but I also don't want ridiculous fish-eye lens warping.
Having done some research, I have come to the conclusion that there are a billion knockoffs of everything imaginable and it's almost impossible to get a clue as to which ones work great and which ones to avoid - especially if you're new to the hobby like I am.
Looking at Amazon, I found somewhere in the neighborhood of over 20-30 drones that are all in the sub-$200 range, and probably half a dozen or so with brushless motors.
I'd just like to avoid a bad brand and be able to get a drone that just does what I need it to.
So please, any help you can give - I'd really appreciate it.
Cheers all.
