Potential situations you could find yourself in as a drone pilot

I’ve noticed a small group of people have a different image of our drones in their mind. I believe most of them suffer from paranoid schizophrenia, drug induced psychosis or other mental illness that induces paranoia. They tend to think they’re being watched, spied on etc. I’m always mindful of flying to close or hovering over people so they don’t feel their privacy is intruded. Most people think they’re awesome but I know some people are made very uncomfortable by them.

I was flying at a park today and was approached by a guy. I could instantly tell by his eyes he wasn’t okay. He told me “Don’t fly that fucking thing near me again or I’ll fuck you up” I said okay and proceeded back to my car to avoid confrontation. I could tell he was following me so I told my GF to get in the car and lock the doors while I landed my drone. He approached me again, this time with his phone recording. He put it in my face and said “See you don’t like that shit do you” I told him I don’t mind since I’m in a public area but I’m landing my drone and won’t be flying it there anymore. I could tell he wanted to provoke me and was looking for a fight. As soon as my drone started landing he went to make his move and try to hit me. Luckily, I carry a firearm but I tried to avoid that route at all cost. I went to unholster my firearm and he finally got away from me. He told me “he gets down like that and wanted me to shoot him” as he proceeded to back up and retreat back to the basketball court he was at before😓 I always knew this was a scenario that could happen but never imagined it really would. Thank God it didn’t go any further but I couldn’t imagine being unarmed in a scenario like that. I hope you all understand the risks we take with this hobby especially in public and prepare for these scenarios. Just thought I’d share my experience so you all can be better prepared if the same thing were to happen to you. Fly safe and be aware of your surroundings.
