So new drone laws went into effect April 21st and I'm trying to understand what's changed. For reference I'm a Part 107 operator who's had my certificate for 6 months so my test was considered the "old" test.
From what I've gathered off the FAA's website;
- Because both my DJI Air 2 and Mini 2 are commercially registered, they both have to have remote ID on whenever I fly, regardless if I'm flying recreationally.
- I no longer have to take a recurrent test every 2 years, but instead a safety training.
- This one I'm a little confused on. If I want to be able to do night operations, I have to retake the knowledge test online so that my Part 107 is the most current iteration?
I have a friend who flies recreationally with a Mini 2, and I'm also trying to help them understand some of the changes that will impact them. Please correct me if any of these are incorrect.
- They do not have to opt in to remote ID because they're recreational.
- They do have to register with FAA Drone Zone.
- In the near future they'll have to take "Recreational Safety Test (TRUST)"? Can't find much info on this.
Appreciate any clarification.
