Even in the year 2021, I still have no idea what the Earth looks like. We have satellite photos that are way high up and then we have films like BBC Earth that show specific close-up views of nature, but nothing in between.
I think having a video fly-over of the entire world would be amazing and give everyone a better perspective of our planet. I'm envisoning a days-long film that goes from south to north in a straight strip, then turns around and goes north to south along the next strip, repeating until you see every square inch of the planet.
It might not be feasible for a single organization to pay for creating it, but it could be crowd sourced. There could be a website that lists the un-filmed strips and anyone could film and upload the video for that strip. There would be ideal parameters for height, camera angle, sun position, etc. that every video should have in order to create a consistent final video.
Just an idea. What do you think?
