My job normally involves quite a bit of (typically last-minute) international travel, so I was thrilled when my wife got me a Mini-2 for my birthday a year(+) ago. Needless to say, Covid sidelined any visions of packing my Mini in my carry-on bag for my travels.
But now I’m traveling again, and I just booked flights to Namibia.
After reviewing the regulations covering drone usage in Namibia, I’m not even going to bother taking my Mini. Namibia seems to be “exhibit A” when it comes to really poorly conceived regulations.
Between required insurance (from the government's one and only provider), to fee-per-flight for any approved flight (this is for recreational, not commercial)…not to mentions that every flight requires 2-3 weeks previous approval from the government.
On the bright, I’ll be working with some folks from their aviation community. Perhaps we can have a conversation over cocktails….
Wish me luck!
