Question about safety of flying indoors

my principal boss has me as the demonstrator for the DJI GO 4 and I've had 3 students fly it while i oversee it(also being the instructor for it too) and it's been flown mainly in the gym(this is a small gym with boxes in it, not like the ones where 200 students are in a school, but in a village with like 40-50 students), many times the students are getting in trouble while i demonstrate how to use it bc they keep getting close or they fly it to close to them; one even crashed it once. I want the drone to be flown outdoors bc i believe it is more safe and ment to go far places and back, but it being in a gym, i feel as if it is soo much more unsafe and prone to break indoors
