Safe distance to record a wild fire?

I recently was flying my drone today and during flight I noticed clouds of smoke billowing up into the sky. I turned my drone into that direction and filmed the incident. I submitted the footage to my local news station, and the views on the Facebook page blew up. After reading some comments I realized that it is highly dangerous to go anywhere near the fire and I’m glad I didn’t get closer. Later I looked on a map and measured the distance from where my Mavic air 2 was to the wildfire and it was about 2 miles. Could I be fined for this?
